Our Client

A property maintenance company who carry out a variety of construction related activities and work on behalf of many major companies in the North West.

The Scenario

This company was reported to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) via an anonymous tip off concerning the dust that they were generating during a particular refurbishment job.

The HSE visited their site and closed the job down, highlighting numerous failings including:

  • a lack of documentation such as training records, risk assessments & method statements (RAMS), no Construction Phase Plan.
  • workers were not wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including respiratory protection
  • an asbestos survey had not been completed
  • there were no fire extinguishers in place
  • the welfare facilities were not up to standard.

How We Helped

The client contacted Comply at Work to help them get back to work as quickly as possible, so we arranged an immediate visit to their site. We then contacted the HSE inspector directly to assure them that it was being dealt with and to agree that we would communicate with the HSE on our client’s behal.

We put together the required documentation for them including RAMS (incorporating an action plan for reducing and controlling the dust levels) and a comprehensive Construction Phase Plan. We also coordinated the arrangement of an asbestos survey and the installation of suitable fire precautions.

We delivered and documented training for their personnel including tool box talks on Asbestos Awareness, Manual Handing, Slips, Trips & Falls, and Working at Height.

Outcome & Benefits

Our communication with the HSE inspector ensured that the site was back up and working within the week, and the HSE inspector validated the improvements following a follow up visit.
